Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Restoring strength, stamina, and confidence in breathing

Chronic respiratory diseases—such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease (ILD), and pulmonary hypertension—can make even simple daily activities exhausting. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a medically supervised program proven to improve exercise capacity, ease shortness of breath, and enhance quality of life for people living with lung disease.

While pulmonary rehabilitation can dramatically reduce hospitalizations and mortality in people with chronic lung conditions, only 5% of eligible COPD patients undergo pulmonary rehabilitation.

At Texas IPS, our pulmonary rehabilitation program combines targeted exercise training with education and peer support, giving patients the tools and confidence to reclaim their independence. Sessions are held twice a week for 12 weeks in a supportive, small-group setting.

Our team of respiratory therapists, nurses, and physicians works with each patient to set achievable goals, monitor progress, and address symptoms. Education includes breathing techniques, safe activity pacing, and self-management strategies that help patients maintain their gains at home.

People who complete pulmonary rehab walk farther, breathe easier, and report better quality of life compared to those who don’t.

Pulmonary rehabilitation at Texas IPS includes:

  • Supervised exercise to improve strength and endurance
  • Breathing retraining (pursed-lip and diaphragmatic techniques)
  • Education on lung disease management
  • Nutritional counseling for respiratory health
  • Support and shared experience in a group environment
  • Ongoing progress tracking and home exercise planning

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a pathway back to daily life, tailored to each patient’s abilities and goals.
